Duties

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is the lead government agency for the implementation of the
Canadian e-Navigation initiative, which includes:
• Leading and collaborating with marine industry and government partners to support CCG’s
digitalization of CCG Marine Services through testing of e-Navigation solutions.
• Coordinating and implementing initiatives to bring new technology to existing CCG programs
while staying current with emerging maritime technologies in order to improve government marine services through a national and international leadership role in e-Navigation standards, strategies, implementation, technology, and development.
• Leading internal and public events communications.

Intent of the process

The intention of this process is to staff two (2) positions indeterminately.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to fill similar positions with various tenures, security profiles and linguistic requirements within the Canadian Coast Guard across Canada.

EDUCATION:
Ed1 : A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
E1 : Significant* experience in ship-based or shore-based maritime operations such as maritime operation centers, ports, maritime industry, or marine service delivery.
E2 : Experience in the preparation of written communication (such as report writing, presentations, advice to management, briefing notes, daily reports, electronic communication).
E3 : Experience working in collaboration with stakeholders, industry partners or government agencies.
E4 : Experience in coordinating and overseeing the implementation of initiatives, projects, or policies.

*Significant experience is defined as an experience of approximately one (1) year.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
AOC1 : Transport Canada or CCG certificate of competency (Navigation or Engineering or) or Department of National Defence marine certificate (ie. Upper Deck Watchkeeping, Bridge Watchkeeping, Marine Engineer, etc.).
AOC2 : Possession of a Canadian Coast Guard Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officer Certificate.

EXPERIENCE:
AE1 : Navigation experience in the Atlantic waters.
AE2 : Navigation experience in the Pacific waters.
AE3 : Navigation experience in the St-Lawrence waters.
AE4 : Navigation experience in the Great Lakes waters.
AE5 : Navigation experience in the Arctic waters.
AE6 : Experience working with Automated Identification System (AIS).
AE7 : Experience in maritime pilotage.
AE8 : Experience creating Geographic Information System (GIS) products and charting in Canada.
AE9 : Experience manipulating and analyzing databases.
AE10 : Experience in the field of Coast Guard Marine or Response Programs such as Aids to Navigation, Marine Communications Traffic Systems, Icebreaking, Search &Rescue, Environmental Response, Vessels of concern, etc.
AE11 : Experience in using, evaluating or testing new technology or equipment.
AE12 : Experience in the preparation of Powerpoint presentations.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing and able to travel.
- Willing and able to work overtime on short notice, on occasion.

Conditions of employment
