The Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg is looking for a General Labour Textiles Upholsterer to provide general labour support for textile fabric repair and manufacturing in order to support lodger organizations within the base. The work includes general labour, operation and maintenance of medium to heavy duty industrial sewing machines, manufacturing of canvas products and seat/cushion repair.

Intent of the process

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
◾Completion of an accredited certification in upholstery and/or combination of education, training and experience; OR
◾ Completion of DP2/QL5 Mat Tech training provided by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
◾ Experience in textile fabric repair and manufacturing.
◾ Experience in the operation and maintenance of medium to heavy duty industrial sewing machines and equipment associated with the textile upholstery trade.
◾ Experience carrying out procedures necessary in the upholstering and the manufacturing of canvas products, seat/cushion repair or equipment bags.
◾ Experience interpreting written instructions, drawings or technical specifications as they apply to the textile upholstery trade.

ASSET EDUCATION:
◾ First Aid Basics course

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
◾ Experience repairing military equipment such as tents, tarps and camp cots.
◾ Experience working or volunteering in a mixed civilian and military environment.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
◾ Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
◾ Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
◾ Knowledge of safety practices and procedures within the textile upholstery trade.
◾ Knowledge of proper patch repair in tentage.
◾ Knowledge of ultrasonic cleaning techniques.

ASSET ABILITY:
◾ Ability to repair, inspect and seal test C4 Gas Masks.

❗ On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
