As a project technologist, you will be responsible for:
• Assisting vessel maintenance managers in coordinating contracted maintenance and in-service engineering work on Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) vessels in Central Region.
• Developing technical documentation in support of engineering design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal of CCG fleet assets. This includes writing technical specifications, statements of work, and procedures; carrying out options analyses and impact assessments; and producing computer aided design (CAD) drawings.
• Analyzing machinery data, inventories, and drawings to assist with the preparation of specifications for the acquisition and overhaul of major equipment or components.
• Providing lifecycle management services in support of design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal activities for CCG assets.
• Validating maintenance, repairs, and fabrication, by witnessing inspections, tests, and trials onboard CCG vessels, in shipyards, and at contractor’s facilities.
• Performing on-site verification of compliance of all "As-Fitted" CCG vessel drawings to various regulations, standards and specifications.
• Verifying contract deliverables for accuracy and validity, such as updated drawings; test and trial reports; measurements for specific equipment; and engineering design documentation.
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) has a direct and important impact on the lives of Canadians. The CCG ensures the safe use of Canadian waterways, and facilitates the smooth functioning of the Canadian economy.
A nationally recognized symbol of safety and service, the Canadian Coast Guard operates on three oceans, the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes, and other major waterways. Operating along the longest coastline in the world and in some of its most difficult weather conditions, CCG operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Providing this high level of service requires a skilled workforce at sea and ashore.
Marine Engineering is a branch within the CCG Integrated Technical Services directorate that consists of a national team of professionals who plan, manage and report on CCG vessel maintenance, repairs, and modifications.

The purpose of this process is to establish a pool of candidates to fill Project Technologist positions of varying duration as required within the Integrated Technical Services Branch, Marine Engineering Division, Canadian Coast Guard.
This process could also be used to fill other identical or similar positions within the Canadian Coast Guard of varying duration and requiring different security clearances/language requirements, depending on operational needs.

EDUCATION:
Ed1:Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution* with a technologist diploma in a specialization relevant to the duties of the position.
OR
Ed2: A secondary school diploma combined with at least one of the 4 certifications below:
A) A valid Fourth Class Marine Engineering Transport Canada Certificate of Competency, or higher.
B) A valid Certificate of Competency as an Electrical Officer as issued by the Canadian Coast Guard.
C) A Transport Canada certification as Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) Engineer Class 1.
D) An acceptable combination of training acquired from working in an acceptable maritime work environment.

EXPERIENCE
Ex1: A minimum of one year working in a maritime, manufacturing, or industrial environment, or in a field carrying out engineering design in the past three years.
EDUCATION
AEd1: A bachelor degree in chemistry, physics, mathematics, or materials, engineering technology, or maritime management.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
AOc1: Valid Transport Canada Marine Safety Third Class Motor Certificate of Competency, or higher.
AOc2: Vocational qualification in one of the following trades regulated by a provincial government or the Interprovincial Red Seal Program:
A) Electrician
B) Electro-mechanic
C) Heavy equipment mechanic
D) Heavy equipment operator
E) Industrial mechanic (millwright)
F) Instrumentation and control technician
G) Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic
H) Small engine or marine engine technician
EXPERIENCE
AEx1: Experience with the operation and maintenance of internal combustion engines, self-propelled barges, lifeboats, deck equipment, electrical equipment, or lifesaving appliances as applicable to commercial, military, or CCG vessels.
AEx2: Experience in using AutoCAD to generate detailed structural, mechanical, or electrical 2D drawings.
AEx3: Experience in performing source inspection of fixed, rotating, or electrical equipment.
AEx4: Experience in management and coordination of complex projects, including maintenance, repair, or construction work carried out in a marine environment.
AEx5: Experience in providing logistical support or material management in a maritime or industrial work environment.
AEx6: Experience with lifecycle management of assets in a maritime or industrial environment.
AEx7: Experience in use and interpretation of regulations, guidelines, and standards applicable to the maritime industry.
AEx8: Experience in developing or interpreting engineering drawings, drafting practices and associated standards.
