• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Iqaluit ranges from approximately $19,188 to $31,979 which is based on if the employee has dependents/occupying staff housing.

• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Yellowknife ranges from approximately $10,625 to $17,767 which is based on if the employee has dependents.

• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Hay River ranges from approximately $12,066 to $20,110 which is based on if the employee has dependents.

• Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Inuvik ranges from approximately $18,434 to $30,722 which is based on if the employee has dependents.

• Vacation Travel Assistance is provided up to twice a year for Iqaluit of approximately $1,032 per person, twice a year for Inuvik of approximately $1,750 per adult, once a year for Hay River of approximately $1,310 per adult, and once a year for Yellowknife of approximately $1,032 for each eligible member of the household.

Duties

Your role as a Field Supervisor will be to lead a team of professional, and well trained Fishery Officers to direct and carry out compliance inspections, investigation activities and enforcement of the various Fisheries-related Act and Regulations that govern fishing activity in the aboriginal, commercial, recreational and international fisheries and protect the fish habitat and the aquatic environment. You will plan and conduct overt and covert patrols by foot, vehicle, program vessel, CCG vessels, fixed and rotary winged aircraft, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.

You will build important relationships with a range of internal and external partners both in the Northwest Territories & Nunavut. Your work, and leadership will be key to the renewal of the Conservation, and Protection strategic, and intelligence led enforcement program in the Region, and as part of our National Conservation Enforcement program.

Work environment

Located in a true Arctic environment at the northern end of Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island, Iqaluit has a population of approximately 10,000 people and is an active community with deep-rooted Inuit culture. The small city has many amenities found in larger cities in the South. Living in a remote and isolated arctic community is not for everyone, but living in the Arctic can be a truly incredible and rewarding experience.

Located on the shores of Great Slave Lake and the edge of the Arctic, Yellowknife is a true northern town with a population of approximately 20,0000 people. Yellowknife has a small town feel, with all the modern amenities found in much larger cities. Yellowknife is a family orientated community with easy access to outdoor adventures.

Located on the south shore of Great Slave Lake the community of Hay River is the hub of the North with a population of approximately 3,500 people. It is on the Highway system to Alberta and is located on the Hay River, which flows into the Great Slave Lake. It is a prime spot for hunting & fishing.

Located in the land of the Midnight Sun, Inuvik has a population of approximately 3,000 people. The citizenry is a mix of Inuvialuit, Gwich’in and non-Indigenous. It is on the Highway system to the Yukon and is the gateway to the Arctic Ocean.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff positions in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet (anticipatory), Hay River, Inuvik (anticipatory), and Yellowknife. A pool of qualified candidates will be established to be used to staff various positions/tenures in these locations only.

Successful completion of a two year post-secondary educational program in a related field OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a related field.

Successful completion of the Fishery Officer Career Progression Program (FOCPP).

Degree equivalency

*Recent experience in planning and conducting enforcement activities in a natural resource management regulatory program.

Experience in identifying, coordinating, and implementing compliance priorities.

Experience developing partnerships with stakeholders in a natural resource management law enforcement context.

Experience providing advice or recommendations to management.

Carry and use firearms and other restricted and prohibited weapons, meeting and maintaining DFO proficiency standards;

Work and/or travel at sea or by air and in a variety of terrains and degrees of isolation for various periods of time in all weather conditions;
Travel (up to three weeks for special assignments);
Work in an isolated posting.
