On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

This is an anticipatory process. The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of fully or partially qualified candidates to be used to staff these or similar or lower level positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador. This process may be used to staff various tenures, including indeterminate, specified period, deployments, assignment, secondments and actings.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience in carrying out projects or initiatives that contribute to the protection or management of protected areas, aquatic habitat or aquatic species.
Experience engaging with stakeholders (such as Indigenous, industry, environmental, government or community groups).
Experience in synthesizing, analyzing and communicating scientific information relating to conservation areas, aquatic habitat or aquatic species.

Graduation with a graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in physical, natural, or applied science with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience supervising staff.
Experience in the establishment, planning, or monitoring of protected areas.
Experience in spatial planning related to the use or conservation of coastal or ocean areas.
Experience working with contribution agreements under a grants and contribution program.
Experience in developing scientific contracts for goods and/or services.
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems or other spatial data programs.
Experience in evaluating potential environmental effects of various industrial developments on the aquatic environment.
Experience planning and participating in public participation processes.
Experience in the process for listing or recovery of species under the Species at Risk Act.
Experience implementing laws, regulations or policies with respects to the Fisheries Act, Oceans Act, or Species at Risk Act (or other federal environmental regulations).

Operational Requirements:
May be required to work overtime
Possession of a valid drivers’ license
May be required to travel to and work at locations outside of headquarters and outside of regular hours of work.
Some positions may require fieldwork.
