Duties

As Policy Analyst, you will be part of a professional team responsible for providing evidence-based analysis on key priorities to enable well-informed policy decisions reflecting regional opportunities and challenges. You will:
• Provide briefing material, analysis and strategic advice that meets expectations in terms of timeliness, completeness, clarity and accuracy.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders and maintain knowledge networks that are integral to effective policy, advocacy and coordination efforts and that can provide critical intelligence that supports decision making at the regional and Agency levels.
• Support Agency priorities, key files, corporate initiatives, and other identified activities by monitoring developments; providing accurate and relevant information reflective of the regional perspective; and contributing to comprehensive and strategic approaches.
• Accomplish work that allows you to use your organizational and leadership skills.

Intent of the process

One indeterminate position is anticipated to be staffed within the next few months.

A pool of qualified candidates will also be established through this process to staff anticipated vacancies, for identical or similar positions, at ACOA through acting, indeterminate or term appointments in the Newfoundland and Labrador region.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Candidates must always have a university degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES
• Significant* and recent experience in preparing briefing notes, presentations or other documents relating to policy issues or economic development.
• Significant* and recent experience in providing advice or recommendations to senior management on complex** issues.
• Experience in policy development, including research and analysis related to policy issues affecting industry sectors.
• Experience in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience collaborating on policy-related or economy-related initiative(s) with partners or stakeholders.

*Significant experience means the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various complex related activities, which are normally acquired over a minimum period of 5 years.
**Complex policy issues are defined as policy issues that are ambiguous, poorly defined or require input, expertise, and analysis from multiple sectors, organizations, or disciplines.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
