WHY JOIN LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES CANADA’S REAL PROPERTY BRANCH?
LAC is recognized as a world leader in acquiring, preserving and providing access to Canada’s documentary heritage. Strategies are underway to modernize its services—both in-person and virtual—and to optimize its digital capacity to acquire, manage and preserve Canada’s documentary heritage, and make it more accessible. The RPB supports the organization by managing its portfolio of assets, as a custodial department, to ensure that LAC has the special purpose and office space required to meet its program objectives. As part of this, the RPB is currently leading two of the largest public infrastructure construction projects in Canada – the Ādisōke and Gatineau 2 projects, which have captured national and international attention and are at the forefront in supporting Canadian’s Greening Government Strategy.
Ādisōke Project – LAC is partnering with the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) to construct a new net-zero carbon LAC-OPL joint facility. Construction started in November 2021 and the new building is scheduled to open to the public in 2026. When complete, this innovative collaboration will offer LAC and OPL users with enhanced services, programming activities, and museum quality exhibition galleries as well as free access to LAC’s vast collections of Canadian history and culture for generations to come!
Gatineau 2 Project – this public-private partnership project is constructing a new state of the art net-zero carbon Preservation Storage Facility, which will make it possible to preserve analog documents for 500 years and will provide present and future generations with access to them.
