Work environment

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) provides information, research and technology, and policies and programs to achieve security of the food system, health of the environment and innovation for growth.

AAFC provides a dynamic, multi-disciplinary work environment with well-equipped plant breeding laboratories and facilities including greenhouse and phytotron facilities, field plot land and equipment, well-equipped laboratories for molecular marker-assisted selection, oilseed quality analysis and production of doubled haploids. The successful candidate will be involved in generating and analyzing data associated with genetic variation for seed-related traits in Brassica napus.

The work will be performed remotely from Winnipeg, MB, but the student will be affiliated to the AAFC Saskatoon, SK research center.

Education:
Currently enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Manitoba with specialization in plant genetics and breeding or related area.

Note : The student must possess an MSc in Plant Sciences.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in canola agronomy or plant breeding.
Experience* conducting germination and secondary dormancy screening experiments.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.

Travel may be required at AAFC Saskatoon, SK research center and the University of Manitoba.
