Work environment

The Government of Canada is like no other organization. Working here, you will get first-hand experience providing information and delivering service to citizens. The GC is comprised of 38 federal departments and agencies, as well as over 50 smaller organizations such as tribunals and commissions that operate at arm’s length from Parliament. But we all work for one team, the Government of Canada.

Communications is a fast-paced environment. Your work will be challenging! You may be one of a team of 2, 10, 50 or 200. You may be required to be available to support at a moment’s notice, or work stand-by on a rotating basis with other team members to ensure somebody is always available after hours and on weekends.

Intent of the process

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific position. This process aims at establishing a pool of partially assessed candidates. As positions become available, hiring managers will select candidates that would best meet their needs for further assessment. Positions will have various tenures, language profiles and security levels.

EDUCATION
ED: A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of experience, training and/or education.

Acceptable combination is defined as the completion of a post-secondary diploma program specific to the communications, marketing or advertising fields and at last three years of work experience in related positions.

*The term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate or higher degree as established by the educational authorities.

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Significant* experience in providing communications advice and recommendations to management**, as well as to partners and/or stakeholders and/or clients.
EX2: Experience in leading the development and/or implementation of communications and/or marketing and advertising strategies, plans, products or activities.
EX3: Experience in developing and/or fostering collaborative relationships with various partners.

* Significant experience is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with full-time performance of duties for a total or combined period of at least 3 years.
**Management is defined as supervisor or above.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

OVERTIME
Occasional overtime on short notice may be required for some positions.

Occasional travel, sometimes on short notice, may be required for some positions.

Conditions of employment

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
Various security and reliability levels apply, depending on the position to be staffed. You don’t need to have a security clearance to apply. The security screening will be conducted at the end of the process if you are selected for a position. Security clearance is a condition of employment.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and attest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Information on employment equity

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
