The Canadian Forest Service is recruiting to fill two permanent, full time analyst positions as part of a team devoted to the National Forest Inventory. The positions will be located at the Pacific Forestry Centre (PFC) in Victoria, British Columbia. PFC is an internationally recognized forest science laboratory. A vibrant group of researchers, foresters, technical and administrative staff work to foster a creative and stimulating work environment.
Duties
Data System Analyst (Stream #1) Canada’s National Forest Inventory (NFI) is hiring a Data Systems Analyst to support the effective collection, management and dissemination of pan-Canadian forest data. The NFI is an operational, strategic-level, long term forest monitoring program that provides statistical information on the state of Canada’s forests and trends since NFI establishment in the early 2000s (https://nfi.nfis.org). The NFI Project Office team includes foresters, technical specialists and computer science staff who deliver the NFI program in collaboration with provincial and territorial government partners. The new Data Systems Analyst will be challenged with updating and improving digital infrastructure that support forest data modelling, satellite and aerial imagery warehousing and a variety of other tools to support pan-Canadian forest information.
Remote Sensing Analyst (Stream #2) The Remote Sensing team at the Pacific Forestry Centre is hiring a Remote Sensing Analyst to contribute to a new and exciting program focussed on operational, pan-Canadian forest mapping. This program will endeavour to advance forest mapping in Canada to support wildfire resilience, with a focus on northern and remote communities. The Remote Sensing Analyst will implement tools to map, monitor and analyze landscape characteristics such as land cover, land cover change, and vegetation composition and structure using multi-source and multi-temporal remote sensing data. The Remote Sensing Analysis will work with a diverse team of remote sensing and wildfire scientists.
Candidates who meet all essential qualifications could be considered for either position.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff with identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.
