Duties

• Experiment setup and execution of laboratory and field research activities related to the project.
• Sample collection and analysis for pollinators and other beneficial insects, soil microbes, nutrients, and greenhouse gases.
• Maintain accurate records of data, perform statistical analysis
• Summarize and interpret results in the format of the scientific manuscript(s) to be published in a recognized peer-reviewed journal(s).
• Write research reports and present the research findings at workshops, conferences, or other scientific meetings.
• Write and defend a Master thesis; wherein, the report of the work carried out during the Master project is reported.

Work environment

The research project will be conducted in conjunction with the University of Regina or University of Saskatchewan and the Indian Head Research Farm, Saskatchewan. The research work will focus on 1. quantifying the value of retaining farm-level wetlands to adjacent land productivity by considering agronomic and environmental goods and services provided by these wetlands, and 2. develop Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) for managing these wetlands. This work will require fieldwork at AAFC Indian Head Research Farm and travel to different field sites for biological data collection and sampling for soil carbon, other nutrients, and greenhouse gases.

Education:
Currently enrolled in a Master’s program at the University of Regina or University of Saskatchewan with a specialization in Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or related areas.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in biology, agriculture or environmental science based laboratory or field research activities.
Experience* in conducting literature review, preparing written reports, OR presentations.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
