Duties

Stream 1
We are looking for Technical Advisors with various technology backgrounds who are interested to join one of our teams from coast-to-coast. You would be given opportunities to broaden your skills and gain valuable experience by working on the development and support of a variety of exciting Cloud-based projects and systems in an Agile work environment.

Stream 2
We are looking for dynamic and dedicated individuals to be part of our Cloud team of IT professionals from coast to coast.

Stream 3
We are looking for a Technical Advisor/Project Leader to be part of a coast-to-coast team of platform and database administrators that support environments in data centers and in the cloud. Over 300 software applications within Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard are supported. The incumbent will manage infrastructure, migrations and modernisation projects.

Intent of the process

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is looking for dynamic and dedicated individuals to be part of our Application Development and Cloud teams of IT professionals from coast to coast.

As part of your application process, you will be provided a listing of various geographic locations and asked to indicate which location(s) you would be interested to work from. Note: During the Covid-19 pandemic response, telework is our current practice.

The immediate need is to staff 10 positions within DFO with varying specializations, locations, and security profiles. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this selection process and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various linguistic profiles as well as various security clearances and/or in various locations within Fisheries and Oceans.

EDUCATION

ALL STREAMS
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

NOTES:

-It is a recognized educational institution (e.g., community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution. EXPERIENCE

STREAM 1
-Recent* and significant** experience in the field of IM/IT.
-Recent* experience in cloud technologies.
-Recent* and significant** experience with all phases of software development life cycles.
-Recent* experience with a variety of operating systems, including Linux.
-Recent* experience with Web technologies.
-Recent* experience advising managers and project teams on technical planning, modification and implementation issues with respect to the design, development and maintenance of IT applications.

** Significant is defined as experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities for a period of approximately two (2) years.

STREAM 2
-A minimum of two (2) years of experience working as an IT professional with Microsoft Azure.
-Experience in the design, implementation, operations and maintenance of Cloud services and technologies including Platform-As-a-Service (PaaS), Infrastructure-As-a-Service (IaaS).
-Experience implementing, monitoring and maintaining Microsoft Azure solutions, including major services related to Compute, Storage, Network and Security.
-Experience in networking such as virtual private networks, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, networking zoning, subnets.
-Experience in the preparation, testing and evaluation of infrastructure security controls of IT systems.
-Experience with managing Linux and Windows Servers.
-Experience with Ansible and Terraform.

STREAM 3
-Significant** experience in managing IT projects.
-Experience in implementation and configuration of middleware or database software on Linux or Windows servers
-Experience with server and/or database migrations in support of application development.
-Experience in providing strategic technical advice to Manager and Director level.
-Experience in producing and maintaining plans, schedules, and reports for IT software projects, for review by management.
-Experience in coordinating tasks and deliverables with multi-disciplinary teams.

** Significant is defined as experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities for a period of approximately two (2) years.

-Experience with Azure App Service.

STREAM 3
-Experience in database management solutions and services.
-Experience in the development of project documentation, tracking activities, and engagement with clients in the delivery of project objectives.
-Experience in the administration of one of the following database technologies: Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Mongo.
-Experience administrating web application servers such as Apache, Tomcat or IIS in Windows or Linux environments.
