Duties

The duties of a Record Control Officer are varied. The incumbent not only interacts with various stakeholders but also works directly with the collections to make it accessible to the Canadian public.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

→ Plan and coordinate the physical transfer of collections, which involves, among other things, liaison with private donors, federal departments and other heritage institutions.
→ Coordinate activities and projects in storage space management and collection relocation.
→ Ensure rigorous control of the storage and tracking of collections.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is anticipatory.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within Library and Archives Canada using various languages requirements (Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC or BBB/BBB) and/or various tenures (Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Specific period, Deployment, Indeterminate) according to the positions being staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION :
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field .

NOTES:
1. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience that is comparable to the minimum education stated above, may serve as an alternative. Whenever the minimum educational standard is met through an alternative, it is met only for the position being staffed, and a candidate must be re-assessed for future appointments and deployments if the manager has asked for this alternative.
2. "Social science" includes economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, history, psychology, geography, criminology, and other disciplines associated with social science. “Library/archival work” includes gallery and museum functions.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:
Experience in client service delivery;

Experience in inventory management or management of records;

Experience handling collection material in an archival, library, museum or records office setting.

Successful completion of an information technician program or certification, or museum studies program.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE (ASSET):
Experience in using an assets management system or a collection management system;

Experience in the preparation or moving of published or archival collections;

Experience in processing archival records;

Experience supporting the acquisition of collection material;

Experience in handling, organizing or transporting material stored in a preservation facility, or museum OR in an environment similar to warehouse, distribution centre, etc.;

Experience in the use of an automated tracking system*. *An automated Tracking system is a software used for tracking the location of assets.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Various Security Clearance : Secret, Top Secret;
Willing and able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 20 kg;
Willing and able to work at the work site located in Gatineau, QC;
To be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
