Assessment accommodation

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Duties

- Plans and directs the daily activities of the CCGC’s food services, including the ordering of supplies and food stuffs, the planning, preparation, and serving of meals, and the cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment and utensils.
- Implements a quality assurance (QA) program to ensure staff compliance with health and safety regulations and establishes and maintains related hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Manages financial resources, food orders, and contracts, and plants and coordinates the maintenance and lifecycle management of food services equipment.
- Manages the human resources of the work unit, including the training and supervision subordinate staff and management of performance objectives and schedules.
- Implements and manages programs to assess and anticipate client needs, taking action to improve client satisfaction as necessary.
- Integrates information and communications technologies into food service activities, using a Point of Sale system to track and monitor food services, costs, and waste and identify inefficiencies.
- Anticipates needs, plans operations and ordering, and leads food preparation activities in response to special events at the CCGC.

Work environment

The Canadian Coast Guard College is a national maritime training facility located on scenic Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. It’s a national college that provides training and services in French and English. It delivers programs to support the College’s mission and mandate in marine safety, security and environmental protection.

The college’s unique and specialized training is sought after by organizations around the world. Each year, highly trained graduates join their colleagues as Coast Guard officers to provide services that are critical to Canadians.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) position in Sydney, NS on a temporary basis. A list of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, within the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, NS.

EDUCATION:
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in culinary arts or relevant specialty OR a Red Seal certification.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
A valid Safe Food Handling certificate from a recognized authority.

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* and recent** experience in a management or supervisory capacity for a large*** food service operation;
Significant* experience as a cook (or chef) in a hotel, restaurant or institution.
Significant* experience in the management of human, financial and materiel resources.
Experience in using automated systems and computer tools such as MS Office or other.

*Significant experience is normally defined as five (5) years of experience.
**Recent experience is normally defined as experience obtained within the last five (5) years.
***Large is defined as ten (10) or more employees

ASSET EDUCATION:
Post-secondary studies from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in business or management.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Variety of experience in different culinary environments. (Hotel, restaurant, institutional, catering).
Experience in implementing quality management programs.
Experience in teaching in a recognized institution.
