Assessment accommodation

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Duties

- Develops, implements, and oversees the enforcement of safety and security (S&S) guidelines, standards, directives, protocols and procedures.
- Provides advice on S&S issues to members of the management team, employees, contractors, and organizers of special events and conferences.
- Conducts risk assessments and inspections of facilities, and recommends and implements safeguards, services and access control measures related to physical and information security.
- Maintains and updates the Emergency Management Plan (EMP) and acts as the subject matter expert (SME) on various types of security incidents and their associated responsive procedures.
- Coordinates security operations and planning exercises with local and national partners, including negotiating emergency response agreements with local partners.
- Supervises the work of the onsite Corps of Commissionaires security force, including scheduling, the management of security tools, and, once a year, the updating of site work instructions and preparation of the service contact.
- Liaises with Real Property (RP) to ensure on-site contractors meet CCGC and departmental security requirements.

Work environment

The Canadian Coast Guard College is a national maritime training facility located on scenic Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. It’s a national college that provides training and services in French and English. It delivers programs to support the College’s mission and mandate in marine safety, security and environmental protection.

The college’s unique and specialized training is sought after by organizations around the world. Each year, highly trained graduates join their colleagues as Coast Guard officers to provide services that are critical to Canadians.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) full time, indeterminate Security Officer position in Sydney, NS. A list of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, within the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, NS.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in implementing security protocols or procedures.
Experience in preparing and analyzing written reports.
Experience in preparing and analyzing data reports.
Experience in interpreting and providing advice to managers on legislation or departmental policies.
Experience in work planning and coordinating multiple projects at a time.
Experience in developing a training or an awareness program.
Experience conducting security inspections.

Degree equivalency

Supervisory experience.
Experience working in a field of security (physical or personnel).
