The purpose of this inventory is to create a pool of prequalified candidates that will be used to fill Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinator within the Canadian Coast Guard, Central Region, St-Lawrence Area. Positions are located at the Québec city Marine Rescue Center (MRSC-Q).

EDUCATION
ED1: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1: Hold, or be in the process of obtaining a Watchkeeping Mate Certificate, approved under STCW 95 and issued under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 Marine Personnel Regulations SOR/2007-115 (or equivalent).

EXPERIENCE
EX1: 12 months experience as a deck officer in charge of the watch.
OR
EX2: 12 months experience as a Marine Rescue Co-ordinator or Assistant Coordinator at a Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) or Marine Rescue Sub-Center (MRSC).
OR
EX3: 12 months experience as an officer in a Marine Communications and Traffic Services Center (MCTS).
OR
EX4: 12 months of experience in CCG operations, such as Regional Operation center, Environmental Response or Search and Rescue Preparedness.

AKN2: Knowledge of the Powers of a Rescue Coordinator under the Canada Shipping Act 2001.
AKN3: Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the Search and Rescue partners in Canada, particularly maritime and aeronautical Search and Rescue.
AKN4: Knowledge of Maritime Search and Rescue Practices and Procedures.

• Hold a valid Watchkeeping mate certificate;
• Valid medical (Health Canada) as per employment requirements;
• Valid Driver’s License or mobility associated with a driver’s license.
• Able and willing to work 12 hour day and night shifts on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays;
• Able and willing to work a standby schedule and overtime;
• Able and willing to wear the Coast Guard uniform while on duty.
• Able and willing to travel by different modes of transport such as a ship / FRC, train, plane and helicopter;
• The candidate must have successfully completed an on-the-job training program and the following three courses within 12 months of being appointed:
1) Maritime Search Planning Course (MSP);
2) Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course (SMC);
3) SAR Mobile Facilities/On-scene coordinator Course (SMF/OSC)

Marine Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinators provide an invaluable service to people in need of assistance on the federally controlled waterways. Maritime SAR Coordinators oversee the activation, planning, and coordination, of Maritime Search and Rescue with the help of strategically located Canadian Coast Guard SAR vessels, Royal Canadian Air Force resources, and partners like police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS).
