Duties

The majority of Storesperson positions are found in a warehouse/stores organization on a Base/Wing or Defence Research facility. You would be responsible for the warehousing and distribution of goods, including hazardous goods, and for carrying out multiple warehouse functions such as procurement, receiving, shipping, storage, stocktaking, distribution of stock, material and disposal. You may supervise/lead a team as a subject matter expert.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill indeterminate vacancies in Halifax Nova Scotia, Borden Ontario, and Montreal Quebec.
This inventory may also be used by the Department of National Defence to fill current and future vacancies with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent) in other locations.

Secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Recent* and significant** experience working in a warehouse environment
Recent* experience in the operation of powered Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
Experience in providing customer service
Experience in Microsoft Office Suite

* RECENT is defined as within the last five (5) years.
** SIGNIFICANT is defined as approximately one (1) year of experience

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Operational Requirements may vary or be exchanged with Conditions of Employment, depending on the position to be filled. These may include:

Willing and able to lift up to 20 kg in accordance with safe work practices.
Willing and able to obtain Control of Hazardous Material certification.
Willing and able to obtain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) certificate.
Willing and able to perform physical tasks such as, but not limited to, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, crouching.
Willing and able to work shiftwork, nights and weekends as required
Willing and able to work overtime if required
Willing and able to travel when required.

Conditions of employment

Various security requirements (Secret and Reliability)

All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act and attest to their vaccination status.

Conditions of Employment may vary depending on the position to be filled. These may include:

• Valid unrestricted provincial driver’s license
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DND 404 driver's license
• Must wear CSA approved safety footwear and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Control of Hazardous Material certification
• Must be able to obtain and retain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) certificate
• Must be able to perform physical tasks such as, but not limited to, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, crouching
• Must be able to work shiftwork, nights and weekends as required
• Must be able to work overtime if required
• Must be able to lift up to 20 kg in accordance with safe work practices
• Must be able to travel when required.
• Must be willing and able to be rotated to any Stores position of equivalent level within the same unit.

↪ Some GS STS 05 positions may include a supervisory differential in addition to the salary reflected above.
