Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff three positions indeterminately.

A pool will be created and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Canadian Coast Guard, across Canada, with various language and security requirements. These positions may be of different tenures.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
• A bachelors degree or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
For Streams 1 and 2:
• Extensive* experience providing advice, guidance or making recommendations to senior management** on complex and/or sensitive issues.
• Extensive* experience working in partnership with clients, other government agencies OR stakeholders.
• Experience in drafting at least two of the following types of document: work plans, internal procedures, frameworks, reports, memoranda, or other documents for management demonstrating thorough analysis, synthesis, and documentation and presenting key findings to senior management.
• Experience in managing or assisting with Financial and Human Resources.

For Stream 2 Only:
• Experience in managing and/or conducting inspections and/or system audits and/or program evaluations in a marine or shore operational environment.

* Extensive refers to experience gained as part of the regular duties of a position(s) over the course of approximately 2 years.
** Senior management is understood to mean at the Director-level (i.e. Executive level) or higher.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Certificate of marine competency issued by Transport Canada or the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) or equivalent as Watchkeeping Mate Near Coastal or Higher or 4th Class Engineer Motorship or Steam Ship Certificate or higher. DND equivalencies are acceptable.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in a Canadian Coast Guard program (Marine Navigation or Response Programs).
• Experience working in the Federal Government.
• Experience working in the marine shipping industry.
• Experience in a supervisory position on board a ship or shore industrial environment.
• Experience conducting safety management audits and investigation.
• Experience in developing and/or leading training activities.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service. As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
