(Anticipatory) - A Boating Safety Officer is needed to do outreach to the public, stakeholders, multi-governmental and enforcement partners. The outreach includes delivering educational presentations on boating safety practices over the phone, via technology or on the dock, at community events and in-person with small or large groups. The Boating Safety Officer will also train enforcement partners such as RCMP, DFO and Conservation Officers how to apply the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and Small Vessel Regulations and community volunteers how to perform safety checks. OBS is about to kick-off the outreach program on boating safety practices - Come join us!
Key duties, but not limited to:
Provides one window point of contact with the recreational Boating Community and general public.
Develops and implements effective public information and education programs for their geographical area of the Region.
Organizes, coordinates, facilitates groups and individuals and makes presentations in order to foster and develop partnerships with members of the boating community.
Establishes, organizes and maintains co-operative relationships with the boating communities.
Develops, implements and evaluates in collaboration with Federal/Provincial/Municipal/ Territorial MOU'S with police forces, strategies and plans for effective enforcement of various regulations within their geographic area of the Region.
Develops methods for the gathering and disseminating of shared information and data resources for promotional and publicity purposes.
Implements public information and education programs designed to increase understanding of safety, environmental and economic factors associated with recreational boating and evaluates the effectiveness of such programs.
Key field contact for the coordination of boating safety programs.
Fosters/facilitates Provincial/Territorial Safe Boating Councils.
