The work will consist of assisting the team in the automation of processes related to data flows between sources and various applications (e.g. web maps, AGOL) as well as participating in the maintenance and validation of data and products. Advanced knowledge of Python programming is required to perform the required tasks.
The Public Health Agency of Canada has been created to deliver on the Government of Canada's commitment to help protect the health and safety of all Canadians. Our current focus is COVID-19 and responding to this public health emergency. Other efforts and activities within the agency are preventing chronic diseases, like cancer and heart disease, preventing injuries and responding to other public health emergencies and infectious disease outbreaks.
The casual employee will work remotely with a French-speaking geomatics team that provides products to support the Public Health Agency of Canada's COVID-19 response.
The intent of this process is to staff one casual position within the National Microbiology Laboratory. A casual can be required to work up to 90 working days within a calendar year. A casual may work 90 consecutive days, a few days a week, or on call.

Information on language requirements
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Economics, Sociology or Statistics AND a specialization in geography, geomatics, or remote sensing.
*Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience with the programming language Python and with the following libraries: Pandas, NumPy, GeoPandas.
Experience with the ESRI products (Desktop and Online)
Experience in evaluating, analyzing, verifying, manipulating and disseminating data from a variety of internal and external sources.
Experience working with computer applications (e.g Excel, SAS, other statistical and/or database software)
Knowledge of methods of quality control and quality assurance.
Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices related to data and information management.
Knowledge of statistics, geostatistics, and spatial analysis.

Asset Education:
Graduation with MSc from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in geography, geomatics, geology or with any field involving geospatial analysis and relevant to the duties of the position.
Asset Experience:
Experience in time series preprocessing and analysis
Experience in data process automation
Experience with the version control system Git
Experience in JavaScript and with the Leaflet library
Experience with QGIS
Experience in a domain related to the public health
