We have an opening for a job as a policy analyst for Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut.
This position would be perfect for someone with strong writing and analytical skills who is interested in research and policy analysis about social and economic factors impacting Inuit employment trends in Nunavut. This job provides the opportunity to develop policy analysis and advice that guides Pilimmaksaivik’s Inuit employment initiatives in Nunavut.

Salary and Benefits:
• The salary range is between $ 88, 618 and $101, 999, plus northern allowance funding of between $22,000 - $38,000 per year.

In this role, as part of the CanNor Program Policy team, the Pilimmaksaivik Policy Analyst works on an interesting range of activities related to Inuit labour force and government employment in Nunavut. This includes: research and analysis of socio-economic issues, writing analytical documents and presentations, and working with federal partners and stakeholders. The policy analyst works collaboratively with colleagues in Pilimmaksaivik and other CanNor and federal government colleagues.
Pilimmaksaivik is the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut. Located in CanNor, it was created to support the Government of Canada efforts toward a representative public service in Nunavut, including its obligations under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement. As the Policy Analyst in Pilimmaksaivik, you would be part of a dedicated and supportive team located at CanNor’s headquarters in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
The intent of this process is to fill one (1) full-time position in Iqaluit. This is a position in Nunavut to support Inuit so we are looking to hire an Inuk enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (also known as a Beneficiary of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement). Nunavut Inuit who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.

EDUCATION
ED: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.
*The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in conducting research and synthesizing socio-economic statistics coming from multiple sources of information.
EX2: Experience in analyzing information and then developing options and recommendations for management.
EX3: Experience working with representatives from other organizations that may have different priorities or interests.
English essential
The language of work in Iqaluit is English. We provide services and encourage people to speak in English, Inuktut and French. A proficiency in English is essential.

EXPERIENCE
AE1: Experience working in Nunavut, Northwest Territories or the Yukon.
AE2: Significant* experience in analyzing and then developing options and recommendations for management.
*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities for a period of at least two (2) years.
KNOWLEDGE
AK1: Knowledge of Inuit labor force and government employment trends in Nunavut.
AK2: Knowledge of one or more of the official Inuit languages of Nunavut (i.e., Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun).
AK3: Knowledge of Inuit culture, society and values.
ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g., Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement).
Operational requirements:
Willingness and ability to travel.
Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability or Secret security clearance - In the federal government, there are levels of security in order to protect sensitive information, assets and work sites. We are happy to answer any questions candidates might have about this requirement. It is a normal part of the staffing process.
Health Canada Medical Clearance (if required).
If the successful candidate is not located in the North, the candidate and his/her dependents (including spouse or common-law partner and children) may be required to obtain Health Canada medical clearance. This is a normal part of the process because Iqaluit, Nunavut is considered to be an Isolated Post.
