Shared Services Canada is modernizing how the Government of Canada manages its information technology (IT) infrastructure. The Department is mandated to deliver email, data centre and telecommunication services, including videoconferencing and Wi-Fi, to partner organizations.

Key tasks of Technical Advisors:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
- Provides specialized advice and guidance to management, program specialists and clients to facilitate development and support of IT infrastructure including Local Area Network, Municipal Area Network and Wide Area Network (LAN/MAN/WAN) systems, workstations, server and mainframe operations, connectivity, IT asset acquisition and life cycle management, integrity of corporate and client applications, voice/data systems, the roll-out of enterprise software, technical support and planning for the evolution of departmental infrastructure.
- Consults with suppliers to investigate new technology and leads research studies on best practices and current trends in IT development, and infrastructure.
- Advises program, administrative, technical staff and management on IT infrastructure policies, procedures and standards, and promotes communication by interpreting and disseminating central agency policies, standards and guidelines.
- Conducts feasibility studies to facilitate the development, maintenance and renewal of complex infrastructure components.
- Negotiates and participates in discussions with managers, program, administrative and technical staff from client organizations to obtain agreement on requirements for services and to resolve technical issues.
- Occasionally leads project teams and working groups composed of technical staff to facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance and issue resolution related to departmental or agency IT infrastructure.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in infrastructure operations and practices.

- Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
- Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. • E2. Experience working with data centre grade network devices and their configurations.
• E3. Experience leading the deployment of data centre grade network devices.

Stream 2 Only – Application Delivery Controller Operations:
• E4. Experience working with application delivery controllers and their configurations.

Stream 3 Only – Data Centre Network Engineering:
• E5. Experience in creating Network planning, design and configuration for large data center environments (1000+ users).
• E6. Experience leading the deployment of data centre grade network devices.

Stream 4 Only – Enterprise Tools:
• E7. Recent* & Significant** experience deploying or maintaining in at least one of the following:
- Netscout Ngenius One
- Network Packet brokers TAP’s and bypass TAP’s
- Splunk Enterprise platform
- Broadcom Spectrum DX and performance Center
- Cisco ACS, ISE or other Radius network protocols products
- Traffic engineering and QoS concepts

• E8. Recent* & Significant** experience deploying or maintaining of at least one of the following:
- Programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Go, Perl, Python, Bash, Javascript, Lua
- Telecommunications networks (VoIP, Wifi,)
- Telecommunications standards and protocols (SIP)
- Virtualization, hyper convergence or cloud application services
- Interfacing with/managing databases (Relational and other)

Stream 5 Only – WAN IP/MPLS Networks Operations:
• E9. Experience working with WAN IP/MPLS infrastructure and their configurations.

* Recent experience refers to experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
** Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties as a core part of the applicant's employment acquired over approximately a period of three (3) years.
