Duties

Transport Canada develops and enforces security regulations, and works with national and international partners to prevent and manage security risks in all transportation modes. In the region, inspectors’ work in aviation security can include:
- contributing to the development of security regulations for aviation security;
- conducting oversight (inspections) of security regulations for aviation security (this is the majority of the work performed);
- assessing security plans; and
- taking action and working with partners in the event of threats.

Experience in the Aviation industry, for example employed by air carrier, airport, screening authority, etc.

Frequency of travel is approximately 5 times per year within the Atlantic Region and once per year to Ottawa or another region in Canada. During the first year of employment, travel is more frequent (approximately 5 times) to Ottawa or another region to receive mandatory training. International travel is rare but possible.

Ability and willingness to work overtime and/or irregular hours on short notice, approximately 5 times per year, depending on inspection schedule and frequency of incidents.

Ability and willingness to work on standby duties on a 24/7 basis, once fully delegated (after approximately 2 years of employment). Standby is of one week duration, approximately once every 8-10 weeks.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence.

Required to pass a pre-employment Category III medical for Transportation Security Inspectors and pass a periodic Category II medical every 5 years.

All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and attest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
