Assessment accommodation

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. Duties

Diagnoses and repairs RCMP Police vehicles and conducts vehicle safety inspections on light and heavy duty equipment. These vehicles may include inland water transport, all terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, motorcycles, mobile command posts, armoured vehicles, covert vehicles, training vehicles, regular police emergency vehicles and ERT special forces units equipped with diesel engines.

Performs level 3 maintenance repairs which includes installing and removing police emergency equipment and telecommunications equipment in accordance with RCMP policy and guidelines where they exist; identifies, reports and repairs potential health and safety issues related to the installation of equipment as it pertains to the operation of the vehicle. Plans, designs, modifies and fabricates specialty equipment, safety equipment and mounting equipment for police applications.

Occasionally as required performs level 1 and 2 maintenance repairs which includes diagnosing, servicing and repairing a diverse range of emergency equipment, including lighting and other specialty equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and unscheduled repairs. Mentors other technical positions in performing these functions.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill indeterminate GL-VHE-10/SP-VM-10 vacancies in Newmarket and Ottawa, Ontario.

A pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill the same or similar positions at the GL-VHE-10/SP-VM-10 group and level in Newmarket and Ottawa, Ontario on an indeterminate or term basis.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

OC1. Possession of a valid 310S Automotive Service Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario OR an Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate (Red Seal) equivalent to the 310S Automotive Service Technician license

OC2. Possession of a valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician license issued by the Province of Ontario OR an Interprovincial Journeyperson Certificate (Red Seal) equivalent to the 310T Truck and Coach Technician license
**Required for the Newmarket, ON Location only

EX1. Recent* experience in the maintenance, inspection, repair and overhaul of gas or diesel-powered engines and components (eg. gas and diesel fuel injection systems, etc)
EX2. Recent* experience in the maintenance, inspection, repair and overhaul of gas or diesel-powered shift transmissions and components of heavy equipment
EX3: Significant** experience in the inspection, diagnostics, and repair of vehicle electrical and electronic components / faults (e.g. drive train, engine, wiring, etc.)
EX4. Significant ** experience using garage management programs and vehicle repair manuals
EX5. Significant ** experience in trouble-shooting techniques and practices
EX6. Recent* experience using a computer for work related e-mails
*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years
** Significant is defined as within the last 2 years
