Duties

About the role:
We are looking for a leader who will work with a dynamic team to advance community economic development in Alberta. The Manager, Community Initiatives will work with communities and other economic development leaders to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth. They will develop and implement funding programs and support communities in achieving their economic goals.

Intent of the process

The intent is to fill one indeterminate (permanent) full-time vacancy.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures, various locations, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to meet the education standard.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• *Significant experience working with diverse stakeholders to advance economic development initiatives or projects.
• *Significant experience developing or assessing complex economic development projects or issues, including preparing briefing materials and providing strategic advice to senior management.
• Experience supporting the economic inclusion of Indigenous peoples or other underrepresented groups in the economy.
• Experience in leading and motivating a team of professionals.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired with the performance of full time duties for a period of three years or more.

Education:
Post-Graduate education in a field relevant to the position

Experience:
• Experience managing financial and human resources.
• Recent experience (within the last three years) working with stakeholders to support community economic development in Alberta.
• Public sector experience delivering economic development funding programs.
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the experience requirements.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
