🚩On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service. About the Job:

DFO is the federal Department responsible for safeguarding and managing Canada's fisheries, oceans and freshwater resources. As the Division Manager in Science, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:
■ Developing, proposing, managing and directing comprehensive scientific programs and research, and providing scientific leadership and orientation for the Division;
■ Managing the financial, human and material resources of the Division;
■ Participating in, and contributing to the overall management of Regional/ National Science Programs and research initiatives as a member of the Regional Science Management Committee;
■ Providing authoritative scientific information, interpretation and advice, and recommending policies, program delivery strategies, standards and methodologies to researchers, scientists and resource managers in Canada and abroad; and
■ Serving as the key contact for communicating relevant fisheries, aquatic and natural science information to client groups and the public, and initiating, negotiating and approving research partnerships with external clients and outside agencies.

■ The employer-approved alternative to the below education, is an acceptable Master’s degree coupled with demonstrated research, application, or training. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in a field of relevance to the duties of the position.
■ Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position (such as fish or wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, or toxicology) or an employer-approved alternative.

■ Significant* experience in managing multidisciplinary scientific teams.
■ Significant* experience in managing human** and financial resources***.
■ Significant* experience in establishing or maintaining effective partnerships or collaborative programs with key internal and external stakeholders, including governments, industry or academia.
■ Experience in providing science, policy or management advice and recommendations to
senior management.

*Significant is defined as depth and breadth typically associated with having carried out these activities on a regular basis over a period of three years or more, but not necessarily continuously over the last six years.
**Human resource management may include planning, directing and coordinating activities related to the recruitment, performance and talent management, and learning and development of employees. Applicants must indicate the number of employees they have supervised.
***Financial resources management may include managing and being accountable for a budget, resource management and forecasting, planning, budget allocation and tracking of expenditures. Applicants must indicate the dollar value of budgets they have managed.
