Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff a one year term position in the National Capital Region. and to create a pool for future staffing needs.

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates resulting from this process will be established and used to fill similar positions with various tenures, linguistic profiles, security requirements and/or locations.

Your résumé.

A covering letter "demonstrating how you meet the experience. Make sure you clearly identify: the number of mediations conducted; approximate hours of pre-mediation, mediation and post-mediation work conducted; your role in the mediations; the type of mediations conducted; number of parties at the table, including whether or not counsel was present; the name of someone who will be able to confirm that you worked autonomously in the course of the mediations"

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
-Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of post-secondary education, training and experience.
-A minimum of 75 hours mediation training (documented proof will be requested if your application is retained).

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* leading or co-leading face-to-face or virtual all-party mediations, or an acceptable combination of experience conducting face-to-face mediations and experience working in the field of human rights

*Experience will be evaluated based on the depth, breadth, complexity and diversity of mediations conducted by the candidate. Generally, such experience would have been gained leading or co-leading a minimum of ten (10) mediations. Please note that candidates must demonstrate that this experience was developed in a “real-life context” (work or volunteer) and not through practice mediations conducted as part of a training plan.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Education:
Bachelor of Law degree (LL.B., J.D, LL.L. or equivalent)

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience:
-Experience working with First Nations or other Aboriginal organizations.
-Experience working in high conflict adversarial environments.
-Experience conducting mediations in a human rights or administrative rights context.

Operational Requirements:
Willingness to travel extensively and work overtime.
Possess a valid driver’s license.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. ASSESSMENT
• Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
• Meeting criteria such as asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the right fit. Candidates who meet asset qualifications could be assessed on a priority basis.
• You may be assessed using a variety of assessment tools, such as, but not limited to: standardized tests, written exams, interviews, simulation exercises, reference checks (the Assessment Committee reserves the right to contact references other than those provided, (within the Public Service only), if found necessary, in order to adequately assess the candidates), recent and past performance evaluations, self-assessments, candidate achievement record, etc.
• Your overall conduct and communications, including email correspondence, throughout the entire process may be used in the assessment of qualifications and competencies.
• A top down approach and/or random selection may be invoked at any stage in this process to limit the number of candidates or for appointment purposes.
• Please note that achieving the pass mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process. Management may decide to use a score that is higher than the pass mark on any of the evaluations used throughout the selection process.
