Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many employees of Indigenous Services Canada are currently working remotely, with the occasional requirement to attend at Canada Place in Edmonton. The department is actively working on a flexible, phased approach for the safe return of employees to their usual workspaces. Therefore, this opportunity may initially be a remote working opportunity. When it is deemed safe to return to the workplace, the opportunity will be located in an Indigenous Services Canada office in Edmonton, AB.
About Indigenous Services Canada and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch:
In August, 2017, the creation of a new department, Indigenous Services Canada was announced. Since that time, the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch has transitioned from Health Canada to the new department.
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.
The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch supports the delivery of public health and health promotion services on-reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit people regardless of residence.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with an established branch in a new department and play a key role in the attainment of its priorities.
This process will be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates which may be used to staff positions in various locations, with various linguistic profiles, for various tenures such as indeterminate, term, secondment, assignment, deployment or acting appointments.
The intent is to staff this position via the Aboriginal Peoples Employment Program, which aims to strategically increase Indigenous representation within the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. As such, Organizational Needs may be applied and first consideration may be given to candidates self identifying as belonging to Indigenous peoples.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
* NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience in developing formal written products including at least two of the following: statistical narrative reports, briefing notes, evaluation reports or presentations.
• Experience in consensus-building in a multi-stakeholder environment.
• Significant* experience in evaluating and analyzing qualitative and quantitative information in order to develop recommendations and policy options.
Note: Significant* experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a minimum of 2 year(s)

EDUCATION:
• Completion of a Master’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in sociology, economics, statistics or another related field.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience engaging with and working with Indigenous organizations or peoples.
• Experience working in or for an Indigenous organization, such as community government or service delivery organization
• Experience in program evaluation, delivery, management, and/or coordination.
• Experience in strategic and operational planning and performance measurement.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
