Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is seeking to hire Indigenous staff to work on two three-year initiatives (2021-2025) funded under Budget 2021 to support the digitization of and access to Indigenous-related documentary heritage.
This project will be Indigenous-led, and will include Indigenous engagement advisors managed by an Indigenous director. The work will be guided by an external Indigenous Advisory Circle and Visiting Elders.
LAC is working to uncolonize and decolonize its policies, programs and practices, and improving services to provide support to the diversity of peoples in Canada. In April 2019, LAC published the Indigenous Heritage Action Plan, a five-year plan with 28 action items in four areas to recognize Indigenous rights and increase access to the collection. To address one of these action items, LAC recently adopted a First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nation Recruitment and Retention Strategy, which outlines three interrelated strategic goals - retention, recruitment and cultural sensitivity - in order to foster a more representative workforce.
