Intent of the process

In an effort to address short-term urgent, operational or project-specific needs within Federal Policing (FP) at the RCMP, the FP Agile Workforce Initiatives team has established the Retired Police Officer Program (RPOP) to offer FP hiring manager’s access to the skills and experience of retired police officers on a casual, part-time basis.

Former RCMP Regular Members, provincial and municipal police officers bring a range of skills and experience in law enforcement to benefit and enhance our programs such as but not limited to:
• general and specialized investigations,
• operational policing policy, training development /delivery, and;
• file and quality assurance reviews.

Our team solicits interest from retired police officers to create a pool of candidates who are willing and able to work on a casual basis (90-day contract) and obtain an RCMP Top Secret clearance. Unlike the Reserve Program where retired RCMP members have the responsibilities of a Regular Member when called upon for duty, the RPOP program is administrative work as a public servant.
