Food Services are responsible for the provision of assistance in the preparation and distribution of meals and provisions as well as the meal service to offenders in an institution of the Correctional Service of Canada or in a Regional Food Production Centre (RFPC).
A pool of qualified candidates will be created following this process, and may be used to staff similar positions for indeterminate appointments, term appointments, acting appointments, casual, deployments, assignments and secondments in the Atlantic Region.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
AND
Professional culinary arts diploma or acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Recent* and significant**experience in a variety of areas within a food production operation(such as cooking, inventory control, budgeting, scheduling, and operating food services equipment).
- Experience supervising and training workers in a food service operation.
- Experience implementing/maintaining Quality Assurance program standards.
* Recent is defined as experience acquired within the last 5 years.
** Significant is defined as having the depth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of approximately 3 years.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of cooking methods and techniques including large quantity meal production.
- Knowledge of principles of basic nutrition related to Canada’s Food Guide, religious and therapeutic diet protocols and menu planning.
- Knowledge of food service procurement practices and inventory control methods.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques.
ABILITIES:

- Ability to manage a budget (for Food Services Manager positions only).

EDUCATION:
- Diploma from a Food and Nutrition Management program recognized by the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) or equivalent.
- Interprovincial Standards (Red Seal) Program certification – Cook.
- Possession of a valid recognized Safe Food Handling Program certification.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working in a correctional environment.
- Supervisory experience working in a unionized environment.
- Experience with cash register or point of sale system (For positions responsible for Small Group Meal Preparation Program only).
- Experience working in a large volume food production operation.
- Experience implementing and maintaining Hazardous Analytical Critical Control Point (HACCP)standards.
- Experience using a foods services information management software.
Reliability Status security clearance
-Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
- Willingness to work with federally incarcerated offenders.
- Willingness to work shifts (evening, week-end, statutory holidays) (Food Services Supervisor positions only).
