Duties

In support of the organic and plant pathology programs, the incumbent will assist with various research projects on crop diseases and organic production. The incumbent will assist in the development of, and implementation of test protocols in areas such as assessing plant growth, identifying and quantifying plant diseases, collection and caring of irreplaceable samples, isolation, culturing and identification of plant pathogens, and cataloguing and maintaining of fungal isolates. The incumbent will be responsible for accuracy of the data input, and contribute to the statistical data analysis and preparation of reports, presentations, and publications. The candidate is expected to work with minimal supervision, learn new techniques as needed, and be responsible for supervision of summer students and casual staff.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Significant* experience isolating, culturing, and identifying fungal pathogens using morphological and molecular techniques.
Experience providing technical support for research projects in crop production and plant pathology/mycology.
Experience collecting, maintaining and performing analysis on plant samples.
Experience conducting statistical analysis.

*Significant experience is defined as cumulative experience amounting to a minimum of two (2) years.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in plant pathology, mycology, or a related field. If your degree is in a related field, you must have completed post-secondary courses in plant pathology, mycology and/or microbiology.
M.Sc. Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in plant pathology, mycology, or a related field.
Successful completion of post-secondary courses in biochemistry.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience contributing to the experimental design and planning of laboratory and greenhouse experiments in plant pathology/mycology.
Experience in PCR, RT-PCR, bioinformatics, genomics, and plant microbiome.
