As a Fishery Officer, per the current collective agreement, you will receive an annual allowance of $3,534.

Direct and carry out compliance inspections, investigation activities and enforcement of the various Fisheries-related Acts and Regulations that govern fishing activity in the aboriginal, commercial, recreational and international fisheries and protect the fish habitat and aquatic ecosystems. Arrest and detain offenders and carry out seizures.
Coordinate and lead a team of Fishery Officers, search for, gather, analyze and validate forensic evidence in order to solve current and major cases, prepare court briefs, prepare and execute other court documents e.g. search warrants; provide advice to Crown Counsel in the prosecution of violation cases; act as crown and/or expert witness in court.
Plan and conduct overt and covert patrols by foot, vehicle, program vessel, CCG vessels, fixed and rotary winged aircraft, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.
Oversee, prioritize, monitor, investigate and gather intelligence and/or conduct audits and collect information on fishing and habitat-related activities to provide status reports on harvest activities, habitat degradation or other major events to supervisor, fish/habitat managers including the Science Sector of the Department.
Promote stewardship of the fisheries resources and fish habitat among the private and public sector industries that may impact on fisheries resources, fish habitat and the general public.
Plan, train, mentor, lead and evaluate new recruits, colleagues and enforcement partners, and train individuals from other enforcement agencies and/or public organizations.
Act as a senior departmental liaison in communities and sole representative of Federal Departments in remote communities.
Provide expertise and assist, as required, other federal (e.g. Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Wildlife Service), provincial, local and international enforcement agencies in fulfilling their mandate.
Plan, coordinate, develop and deliver public education and awareness presentations for the public and stakeholders.
Plan and supervise the work of Fishery Officer staff, and develop operational plans in a fiscally responsible manner.
The positions are located at the Regional Headquarters is Winnipeg in the Freshwater Institute which is situated on the University of Manitoba’s campus, and the Fisheries and Oceans Canada office in south Edmonton. Winnipeg - known as the "Gateway to the West" was recently named the Cultural Capital of Canada. Both cities are also home to professional sports franchises like the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) & Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL); and the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) & Edmonton Eskimos (CFL). Winnipeg and Edmonton are gateways to a wide range of beautiful landscapes, a multitude of lakes, and outdoors adventures.
The Region is extremely diverse covering four Province (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario), and the Arctic (Nunavut, and Northwest Territories). Our region covers 71% of Canada's coastline, 67% per cent of the country's fresh waters (with 8 of the 20 largest lakes in the world); 65% of Canada's marine waters; 64% of Canada's land mass; and 60% of Canada's population.
Your role as a Field Supervisor will be to lead a team of professional, and well trained Fishery Officer’s to work on important, and complex habitat files to restore lost protections; conserve, and protect a large array of threatened and endangered Aquatic Species at Risk, and to prevent the introduction of Aquatic Invasive Species; while working with a professional intelligence service, and Major Case Management unit in support of operational enforcement programs. You will build important relationships with a range of internal and external partners in the Prairie Provinces. Your work, and leadership will be key to the renewal of the Conservation, and Protection strategic, and intelligence led enforcement program in the Region, and as part of our National Conservation Enforcement program.
The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff these positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Ontario and Prairie Region at the GT-05 group and level. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff these and similar positions on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, assignment, and/or deployment basis.

Successful completion of a two year post-secondary educational program in a related field or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a related field.
Successful completion of the Fishery Officer Career Progression Program (FOCPP) or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training, and experience working in Natural Resource Law Enforcement. (See the following note.)
Note: An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience would be 18 weeks of in class training involving fisheries/natural resource management and criminal law, police defensive tactics, firearms safety and proficiency including pistol and shotgun, driving and court procedure. A minimum of 30 months field experience with a training officer in a natural resource law enforcement setting would be required on top of the theory (classroom) training.
*Recent and **significant experience in planning and conducting enforcement activities in a natural resource management regulatory program.
*Recent experience in identifying, coordinating, and implementing compliance priorities.
*Recent experience developing partnerships with stakeholders in a natural resource management law enforcement context.
*Recent experience providing advice or recommendations to management.
