As an Economic Development Officer with ACOA, you will:
- Accomplish work that allows you to use your organizational and leadership skills.
- Promote ACOA’s programs and activities to the public and business community.

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, or an acceptable combination* of education, training and/or experience relevant to the duties of the position.
*An acceptable combination is defined as completion of secondary school and a minimum of two years of post-secondary education.
IF YOU WENT TO SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF CANADA
If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. This will enable you to provide proof that your foreign credentials are comparable to Canadian standards when applying for a job in the public service. The public service recognizes foreign educational credentials as long as they are deemed comparable to Canadian standards, through a recognized credential assessment service.
The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) assists persons who wish to obtain an assessment of their educational, professional and occupational credentials by referring them to the appropriate organizations.
The CICIC does not itself assess credentials, nor does it intervene on behalf of individuals or in complaints to the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board (FPSLREB). ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
• Recent and significant experience in the analysis, evaluation and/or recommendation of business plans, applications for funding or economic-development project proposals.
• Recent and significant experience in developing and sustaining collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, businesses and/or economic organizations, to advance economic-development projects or initiatives.
• Experience in developing or negotiating project agreements/contracts and monitoring progress against agreements throughout the life cycle of a project or initiative.
*Recent is defined as relevant experience gained within the past five years. Significant is defined as relevant experience normally acquired through the performance of duties for approximately two years.
ASSET EDUCATION
• Recognized professional accounting designation.
• A post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in accounting, public administration, economics, law, business administration, commerce, finance or some other specialty relevant to the position.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Managing a portfolio of grant and contribution and/or lending projects.
• Processing client claims for payment and monitoring projects, including collecting receivables.
• Development and/or implementation of projects that support the economic inclusion of under-represented groups.
• Working with Indigenous communities in support of economic and business development.
• Analyzing complex*** economic-development initiatives or issues, including preparing briefing materials and providing strategic advice for senior management.
• Recent experience in reviewing financial statements or other financial analyses to evaluate financial sustainability of businesses or not-for-profit organizations.
• Experience in supervising staff, assigning and prioritizing work, evaluating and managing performance, and other human-resources functions.
• Experience in business-improvement or process-improvement tools and methodologies, including Lean Management or Six Sigma.
*** Complex issues are defined as economic issues that are ambiguous, poorly defined, and require input, experiences and analysis from multiple sectors, organizations or disciplines.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
