Assessment accommodation

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. Work environment

As a Technical Writer/Designer, in support of the Uniform and Equipment Program of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, you will be part of a unique team that works in a fast paced environment and are responsible for researching, developing and evaluating specialized law enforcement clothing and personal protective equipment, writing technical specifications including technical drawings and scales of measurements, and providing technical advice on material and product suitability, availability and uses. You will also analyze and resolve technical issues throughout the production and contracting stage. Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two positions on an indeterminate basis, with an English Essential linguistic profile of and an Enhanced Reliability security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION:
EDU1 - A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternative.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
EX1 - Experience in the development of technical specifications for clothing or personal protective
equipment*.

EX2 - Experience in analyzing technical issues and performing technical assessments for clothing or personal protective equipment*.

EX3 - Experience in the design of clothing or personal protective equipment*.

*Personal protective equipment refers to specialized clothing or equipment that provides protection
against health and safety hazards. Personal protective equipment is designed to protect many parts
of the body, ie. Major organs, eyes, head, face, hands, feet and ears.

EDUCATION:
ED1 - Completion of post-secondary studies with a specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the
position such as clothing design, textiles or industrial design.

AEX1 - Experience in patternmaking or creating made to measure clothing from a base pattern and an individual’s measurements using computer aided design software such as Gerber, Lectra, PAD.

AEX2 - Experience creating a base pattern for new clothing and/or equipment developments on paper or electronically

AEX3 - Experience in pattern grading on paper or electronically

AEX4 - Experience using Adobe Illustrator

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.
