Duties

Participate in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of building systems. Monitor and adjust control systems for optimal performance. Respond to equipment emergencies and provide troubleshooting support to identify and remedy problems. Carry out and assist in the development of the preventive and legislated maintenance program. Perform inspection and repair for a variety of equipment within various building trade disciplines.

Work environment

As one of twenty Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centres, this Machinery Maintenance Craftsperson position is based at the Fredericton Research and Development Centre. The incumbent will work as part of the facilities management team to provide building maintenance which supports the delivery of scientific research by our clients. The majority of work will be in Fredericton however there will be some duties required for our satellite farm located at Benton New Brunswick.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time permanent position

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements and security requirements within AAFC.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience with performing maintenance on systems such as but not limited to Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Experience working with trade contractors.

Experience working with computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Post-secondary diploma or degree from a recognized institution

Occupational Certification - Possession of at least ONE of the following:
• Power Engineer License;
•Journeyperson certification in one or more of the following trades: Plumber, Electrician, HVAC
technician, Millwright, and/or Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning technician; OR
• Relevant certificates or designations issued by BOMI Education Canada

Degree equivalency

Knowledge of how to use tools for building automation and controls systems for the purpose of making programming changes, graphic changes, performing system backups, and control panel replacement.

Experience working with computerized maintenance management system.

Experience working within an industrial or commercial complex.

Knowledge of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, including maintenance techniques and preventative maintenance practices related to commercial buildings.
Knowledge of how to use tools for building automation and controls systems for the purpose of troubleshooting and problem solving.
Knowledge of safe work practices applicable to working with steam, hydronic heating and cooling, refrigeration and electrical systems.
Knowledge of applicable Standards, Regulations, Codes or Acts, such as ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers), Federal Halocarbons Regulations, or Canada Labour Code.
