Intent of the process

The objective of this process is to staff 1 position on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures in the Department of National Defence (DND), with various linguistic and security profiles.

EDUCATION:
🔸 Graduation from a recognized school of veterinary medicine.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
🔸 Eligibility for membership in a Canadian veterinary association.

EXPERIENCE:
🔸 Recent* experience in managing a laboratory animal program.
🔸 Recent* experience in performing clinical examinations, diagnostic assessments, and treatment of a variety of laboratory mammalian species.
🔸 Experience performing pathological examinations and writing pathological reports.
🔸 Recent* experience in supervising personnel.
🔸 Experience implementing or following Canadian Council of Animal Care guidelines.

🔸 Experience conducting experimental science.
🔸 Experience in specialized veterinary fields (e.g., clinical pathology, surgical and microsurgical techniques, cardiovascular physiology, necropsy, pathological procedures, infectious disease monitoring).
🔸 Experience working or volunteering in a mixed civilian and military environment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
🔸 Must be willing and able to obtain and retain a Level II Secret Security Clearance.
🔸 Must be willing and able to obtain Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA) clearance.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work with chemical warfare agents, highly toxic chemicals, radioisotopes or biological agents at various levels of containment, to some of which no effective medical countermeasures are available.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work overtime, including weekends, and be on call.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work in a biological containment laboratory or laboratory setting which includes working with animals, hazardous chemicals and radioisotopes.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work in a field setting (non-laboratory), including in adverse weather conditions.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work for extended periods wearing Personal Protective Equipment, as required.
🔸 Must be willing and able to work for extended periods wearing full Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) equipment, including a DND issued respirator, as required.
🔸 Must be willing and able to obtain and retain a DND 404 driver’s licence.
🔸 Must be willing and able to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally.

7. On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
