We are looking for people who think independently, work creatively and enjoy working in a team environment to support the priorities of the department. As a Financial Analyst you will be a key player in the development of PrairiesCan accounting policies, processes and procedures and monitoring of compliance, assists in the management of daily corporate accounting operations, and the provision of advice and training on Departmental accounting policies, processes and procedures.
PrairiesCan works to develop and diversify the economy of Prairies Canada by delivering grants and contributions programs and advocating on behalf of the West.

Education:
• A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience related to positions in the Financial Management Group.
or
• Eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation. The recognized professional accounting designations are Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA).
Experience:
• Experience in conducting financial analysis and in preparing reports and/or written assessments and recommendations from the results for senior management
• Experience in working in a multi-system environment: using an enterprise or an organization financial system in combination with one or more other applications, systems or programs to produce financial analysis, reports and/or presentations.
Experience in at least two (2) of the following areas:
• Financial Management (Financial planning; budgeting and forecasting; reporting; financial management advisory services).
• Financial Operations.
• Financial Systems.
• Internal controls.
• Cost Management (costing and charging).
• Investment Management.
• Project Management.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of Treasury Board Policy Instruments as it relates to financial management systems and internal control.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• Post-Graduate education in a field relevant to the position.
• Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Experience:
• Experience in the use of a departmental financial system, such as SAP, including implementing, developing, testing, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance and support.
• Experience providing training to clients on financial systems, policies and/or procedures.
• Experience in monitoring internal controls.
• Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, V-look-up, Macros, etc.).
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of any of the experience requirement.
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of regional economic development issues in western Canada and/or Alberta.
Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime.
