Work environment

Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. The headquarters of CanNor is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. CanNor also has regional offices in Yukon and the Northwest Territories, and a liaison office in Ottawa.

CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for Northerners and Indigenous people, communities and businesses across Canada's three Territories. As one of the smallest of the Government of Canada’s regional development agencies (less than 120 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic issues.

In short, this is definitely not just another boring old desk job! This is a rewarding opportunity for motivated and resourceful individuals to make a real difference in the economic and social wellbeing of northern residents; by working directly with communities and businesses, and witnessing first-hand the results of the government’s investments.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill 1 full-time permanent position in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (i.e. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.

Consideration may be given to different types of appointments / tenures (e.g. indeterminate, 1 to 3 year term or acting assignment / secondment, Interchange, etc) based on the selected candidate’s personal situation.
