Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill one indeterminate position as a Vehicle Technician Instructor in Borden ON. However, this process may be used to staff the above or similar positions, with varying tenures, language, security or location.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position being staffed (Instructor)

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant* experience in at least ONE of the following:
1 - use of advanced tooling such as alignment machines, training boards for Anti Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Supplement Restraint System (SRS), fuel management, and other such systems;
2 - Weapons repair (inspection, calibration, repair and maintenance);
3 - Fabrication and repair, including welding and machining on sheet metal and textiles;
4 - Electronics and optical instrument repair (inspection, calibration, repair and maintenance);
5 - Working in a repair/fabrication shop (as a mechanic, machinist, fabricator, etc.).

*Recent and significant is defined as approximately five years of experience gained within the previous seven years

Experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.

The following qualifications could be considered essential for some positions. Please CLEARLY indicate in your screening answers if you have any of the following:

Specific to Vehicle Technician Instructor:
• Possession of a Red Seal certificate, Journeyperson Equivalent, or military qualification in one of:
- Automotive Service Technician;
- Heavy Duty Equipment Technician;
- Industrial Mechanic;
- DP2/QL5 Military Vehicle Technician or DP2/QL5 Technical/Mechanical equivalents from the RCN or RCA

Specific to Weapons Technician Instructor:
• Weapons Technician Trade Certificate to Development Period 2 (known as QL5)
• Weapons Technician Trade Certificate to Development Period 3 (known as QL6)
• Qualified in the following Weapons Technician Specialties Specification (SS):
- SS Howitzer Light Towed LG1 Mark 2 Qualification;
- SS Leopard 2 Weapons Maintenance Qualification;
- SS 155mm M777 Lightweight Towed Howitzer Armament Maintainer Qualification;
- SS Precision Weapon Maintainer; and
- SS High Security Containers and Locking Devices Technician

Specific to Materials Technician Instructor:
• Journeyperson certificate in welding OR training and experience in repair and fabrication using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting repair and fabrication.
• CWB Certified Welding Supervisor.
• Journeyperson certificate as a sheet metal worker OR training and experience with sheet metal repair and fabrication.
• Certificate as an Industrial sewing machine operator OR training and experience in industrial sewing repair and fabrication.
• Experience in painting and autobody repair.
• Qualified Materials Technician Development Period 2 (known as QL5).
• Qualified in the following Materials Technician Specialties Specification (SS):
- SS Advanced Welding Qualification;
- SS Advanced Machining Qualification OR equivalent; and
- SS Sea Container Inspector Qualification, a valid IICL certification OR equivalent.

Specific to Electronic-Optronic Technician Instructor:
• Electronic-Optronic Technician Trade Certificate to Development Period 2 (known as QL5).
• Electronics related diploma.
• Qualified in the following Materials Technician Specialties Specification (SS):
- SS Mobile Air Conditioning; and
- SS Leopard 2 Electronic-Optronic Maintenance.

Experience teaching in an Adult educational environment.
Experience teaching in a military school or training centre.
Experience with the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS).
Experience working or volunteering in a mixed military/civilian environment.
Experience participating in course design and development activities.

Willing and able to stand for lengthy periods of time while instructing/training and move a variety of training aids some of which can be heavy (i.e. automotive parts, test equipment, large tools).
Willing and able to climb on, under and inside vehicles and equipment when demonstrating techniques.
Willing and able to instruct in a workshop environment.
Willing and able to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment.
Willing, able and eligible to obtain and maintain Departmental Driver’s Licence (DND 404).
Willing and able to work in harsh environments (outdoors, cold, hot, dust, and noise).
Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver's license.

Depending on the position(s) being staffed, some additional Conditions of Employment and/or Operational requirements may be required.
