On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
This position consists of the following duties: organize and classify library material including maintenance and upkeep of library collections; perform bibliographic searches using library automated systems; develop and modify internal procedures; perform interlibrary loans; supervise inmate library workers; prepare inventory needs for library operations; interact with publishers and suppliers to coordinate services; respond to reference enquiries; and coordinate book donations according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC) policy.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500 offenders under supervision in the community.
In the Atlantic Region, we manage approximately 1,100 offenders within our four (4) institutions. At Nova Institution for Women, we manage approximately 70 women.

This process will be used to staff one part-time (15 hours/week) position at Nova Institution for Women located in Truro, Nova Scotia. The position requires working evenings during weekdays.
A pool of qualified candidates may also be established for future opportunities (permanent or temporary).

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in the field of library science, library technology, sociology, education, criminology, criminal justice or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed; OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a field relevant to the position.

*The position being staffed is English Essential, however if a pool of candidates is established, the requirements for other correctional facilities could be Bilingual Imperative - - B/- - B.

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in the operation of a library.
- Experience in the use of various software programs (such as Microsoft Office or various library software applications).
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of library management.
- Knowledge of Commissioner’s Directive 720 – Education programs and services of offenders.
- Knowledge of Commissioner’s Directive 764 –Access to expressive material.
ABILITIES:
