Assessment accommodation

Duties

Manages and supervises the delivery of education programs to, and the provision of library services for, inmates.
Implements and directs institutional education programs for one or more institutions.
Manages the institutional library services offered at one or more institutions.
Ensures adherence to CSC policy for education programs and library services.
Establishes and maintains records of classroom and library equipment, materials and supplies, and ensures that these are appropriate to meet the needs of inmates.
Supervises a subordinate staff of teachers, librarians and assistants, and monitors the work of contract staff (where applicable), at the institutions.
Reviews and provides quality control of all interim and final performance assessment reports.
Establishes and maintains communication and reporting between the schools and libraries at the institutions and the regional headquarters.
Collaborates and liaises with case management staff and other institutional staff (as required) at the institution(s).
Manages the budget and develops a staffing plan for education programs and library services.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

The immediate intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position. A pool of qualified candidates will also be created and may be used to staff this position in the future.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics or some other specialty relevant to the positions in the group.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of an acceptable teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada and eligibility for a valid teaching certificate at the professional level from the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch.

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience teaching at-risk youth and/or adults academic subject matter in a classroom setting**.

*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of five (5) years of full-time work.
**"Classroom setting" is defined as a classroom with 10 or more students.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
