What would you be doing?
• As a Senior Criminal Investigator - Cybercrime you will be working side-by-side with police officers investigating cybercrime;
• Participate in different operational activities such as field operations (e.g., offsite interviews, court, and supporting execution of search warrants and seizures), however, the Criminal Investigator role is primarily conducted in an office environment or in a government building;
• Collecting and preserving evidence related to:
• Technology as a target – unauthorized use of computers or mischief in relation to data (i.e. “Hacking”)
• Technology as an instrument – where the Internet and information technologies were used to commit traditional crimes such as online fraud, identity theft, drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, organized crime activities, etc.
• Attending and providing testimony in court as a subject matter expert;
• Engaging in digital evidence processing and reviewing of seized data;
• Provides advanced and specialized skills, experience, advice and recommendations in relation to the Criminal Code of Canada and other Federal Acts of Canada in such areas as network intrusions, ransomware, denial of services, national security, fraud, internet drug-based trafficking, intellectual property infringement and other related areas of cybercrime;
• Ensures continual learning and consultation with other law enforcement agencies to maintain knowledge of trends in analysis techniques, investigations, technology used by criminal actors and the applicable laws;
• Engages and maintains contacts with other domestic or foreign law enforcement organizations to solicit cooperation and advice in addressing highly technical and complex cybercrime investigations. Collaborates with partners in tactical, strategic disruption and mitigation.
Preparing you to become a Criminal Investigator :
• Criminal Investigators will participate in a comprehensive Federal Policing Investigations Training program including a robust coaching program during their first 24 months of employment.
• Training is aimed at equipping new civilian Criminal Investigators with foundational knowledge of Federal Policing and police sciences (Introduction to Police Science (IPS)), including content ranging from the RCMP Code of Conduct, applicable domestic statutes, legal authorities, types of offences, evidence and exhibits, judicial authorizations, interviews and court processes, and more.
• Upon completion of IPS, candidates will be granted Peace Officer Status and progress to the Federal Policing Investigations Program (FPIP).
• The curriculum is comprised of core and elective courses (online and instructor-led) where learners will be guided by their supervisors or by their coaches.

The immediate need is to staff three (3) positions on an indeterminate basis, with various linguistic profiles (Bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, English/French essential) and an RCMP Top Secret security clearance.
A pool of candidates will be established and will be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP across Canada on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, assignment, secondment or interchange Canada) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
Note:
1. Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. Experience:
• Significant* experience in computer programming or in the administration of servers, networks or workstations.
• Recent* and significant** experience working in an information technology field.
*Recent is defined as within the last two (2) years.
**Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired by performing a variety of functions within the field for a minimum period of three (3) years.
Education (Asset):
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in a related field, such as Computer Science
Occupational Certification (Asset):
Completion of technical certifications (such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+, CISSP, MCSE, CCNA, CEH)
Experience (Asset):
Experience in the administration of network security devices or systems such as firewalls, routers, switches, intrusion detection systems, intrusion preventions systems, or load balancers
Experience working with programming/scripting languages
Experience in the application of cyber incident response best practices and guidelines
Experience managing a team
