What is the Policy Officer Recruitment Programme (PORP)?

The PORP is a three-year professional development programme designed to recruit and develop talented individuals to meet the unique demands of the defence policy environment and become well-rounded public servants. In addition to three one-year assignments across the Policy Group, a practical, three-year curriculum will round-out your academic experience and help you hone your skills in areas like writing in a professional context, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills.

Intent of the process

The objective of this process is to staff (5) positions in the PORP on an indeterminate basis.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar positions with various tenures in the Department of National Defence (DND), with various linguistic and security profiles.

EDUCATION
ED1: Graduation* with a Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the duties of the position**.

AND

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization*** in economics, sociology or statistics.

*Candidates currently completing a Master's degree will be considered. They must demonstrate they are able to complete all the requirements of their current studies program to obtain their Master's degree by 31 July 2022.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status.
