Duties

About the Role:
We are looking for a leader who will work with a dynamic team to support partners and innovators in strengthening the innovation ecosystem in across Manitoba. The Manager, Innovation Ecosystems will lead a team that works to grow priority economic sectors and develops and implements funding programs that support business innovation, economic development and diversification in Manitoba. Priority sectors include clean technology, life sciences, digital industries and digital-ag, value-added agriculture, and advanced manufacturing. PrairiesCan funding programs aim to create, grow, and nurture inclusive regional ecosystems that support business needs throughout the innovation continuum, and foster an entrepreneurial environment that is innovative and supports economic growth and competitiveness.

PrairiesCan offices are open environments with well-regulated air quality, ergonomic sit- stand workstations, and a combination of natural and fluorescent lighting. The physical demands of this position include spending a significant amount of screen time on a computer or equivalent, as well as reading documents in digital and/or print media. This role will also involve meeting with stakeholders virtually by video or telephone, and in-person as COVID-19 public health measures allow.

Intent of the process

The intent is to fill one indeterminate (permanent) full-time vacancy. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level. This process may be used for various positions and tenures, various locations, security requirements, and language requirements.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, may serve as an alternative to meet the education standard.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Significant* experience building successful organizations or successful initiatives that support business innovation or economic development.
• Significant* experience preparing, assessing or managing complex funding proposals or projects.
• Experience in program delivery.
• Experience analyzing complex** economic development programs or issues, including preparing briefing materials and providing strategic advice to senior management.
• Experience providing client service to internal and/or external clients.
• Experience managing human and financial resources

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired with the performance of full time duties for a period of three years or more.

**Complex issues are defined as issues that are ambiguous, poorly defined, and require input, expertise, and analysis from multiple sectors, organizations, or disciplines.

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of the models and principles for building successful business innovation ecosystems.
• Knowledge of Manitoba’s business innovation ecosystem.

Education:
• Post-Graduate education in a field relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Public sector experience delivering economic development funding programs.
• Recent experience (within the last three years) working with stakeholders to develop Manitoba’s innovation ecosystem.
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the experience requirements.

Operational Requirements:
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Willingness to travel occasionally
