The Atlantic Regional Office of Indigenous Services Canada works with 34 First Nation and five Inuit communities as well as many other Indigenous organizations from across New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Therefore, this opportunity may initially be a remote working opportunity. When it is deemed safe to return to the workplace, the opportunities will be in an Indigenous Services Canada office located in the Atlantic Region. A long-term telework agreement could be considered depending on the responsibilities and the position to be staffed.

Intent of the process

We are looking to staff various entry level positions however, we believe the duties these employees perform are more than routine administrative requirements. The employees in these positions perform critical functions and their contribution to team success is the backbone of organizational effectiveness.

This process is in support of current and future staffing needs within the Indigenous Services Canada Atlantic Regional Office. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications will be contacted for consideration.

This process will be used to fulfill positions such as General Administration clerk, Administrative assistant, Administrative support to the director or other similar positions. Roles may be related to planning, organizing and coordinating meetings or events, finance, information management, human resources, research and data entry, production of documents, etc.

A pool of qualified candidates will also be established and could be used to fill identical or similar positions of various duration and with different linguistic profiles within Indigenous Services Canada across Canada.

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

• Experience in providing administrative support services.

(Examples may include, but are not limited: providing information, assistance and advice over the phone, by email or in-person; scheduling and organizing meetings; preparing, recording or distributing meeting agenda, minutes and background materials; purchasing and maintaining an inventory of office furniture, supplies or equipment; working in a mailroom; working in a records area; maintaining files; making travel arrangements; processing travel claims; and paying invoices. These experiences may have been gained on the job, through school work or volunteer work.)

ABOUT THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

You’ll be assessed to ensure that you meet the qualifications of these positions. If your application is retained, you will be required to successfully write the Unsupervised Test (UIT) of Cognitive Ability – Level 1 (UIT CA1 208) online. A link to the test will be sent to you by email at a later date.

The application will be used to assess the ability to communicate effectively in writing. The process may include other assessments such as an interview or reference checks.

Before the interview, you will be provided with a definition of abilites and personal suitabilities to guide you in your preparation.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
