To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, you must meet the following criteria :
- Be recognized as having full-time student status by the post-secondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled (proof will be required).

This is a nine (9) months student position, part-time hours.
The Bursary of $14,000 is payable in two (2) equal installments.

Assessment accommodation

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

Duties

The successful candidate will undertake a graduate level research project on the socio-economic impacts of catch and retain Bluefin tuna charter fishing in the DFO Gulf Region. This will involve (1) the development and implementation of a survey to assess the socio-economic impacts of a catch and retain Bluefin tuna charter fishing pilot on commercial fish harvesters and local communities, as well as (2) a socio-economic analysis of survey results.

Depending on the COVID-19 situation and public health measures, the student may be required to travel to Gulf region of DFO, and conduct survey work outdoors. As the survey work would be with fishing charters, the hours of work may depend on the departure and return times of the fishing charters.

Work environment

The Economics, Statistics and Data Governance Directorate at Fisheries and Oceans is responsible for developing economic research, analysis, and advice to support evidence-based decision making on a wide range of issues of concern to Canada’s fisheries, aquaculture, and oceans’ sectors and the Canadian Coast Guard.

✔ The student must be currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a Master's or Doctoral program related to fisheries, marine or natural resource economics at Dalhousie University.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
✔ Experience in researching economic or socio-economic issues.
✔ Experience in analyzing and interpreting economic or socio-economic data.
✔ Experience in drafting summaries, literature or report reviews, or presentations.

Note: In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
