For the purpose of staffing within the federal public service, the term Aboriginal is used, as per the Employment Equity Act, to define a North American Indigenous person as members of First Nations, Inuit or Métis. North American Indigenous people or members of First Nation include treaty, status or registered Indigenous people, as well as those non-status and non-registered. About Indigenous Services Canada and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch:
In August, 2017, the creation of a new department, Indigenous Services Canada was announced. Since that time, the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch has transitioned from Health Canada to the new department.
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.
The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch supports the delivery of public health and health promotion services on-reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit people regardless of residence.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with an established branch in a new department and play a key role in the attainment of its priorities.

NOTE: Remote work arrangements may be available and will be determined on a case-by-case basis dependent on operational feasibility at the time of hiring. This may mean working from an ISC/CIRNAC office within a regional or national headquarters building. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our teams are currently working remotely, though this may change in the future.

Asset Education:
1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in a health or social sciences-related field, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
2. Completion of training and/or courses related to working with First Nations and/or health programs and services.
Asset Experience:
1. Experience living and/or working in a First Nations community/Metis Settlement.
2. Experience supporting delivery of social or health programs or services.
3. Experience working with Indigenous people or organizations.
4. Experience in financial management (i.e. management of program funding, expenditures, audits, program allocations or forecasting) which could include: monitoring contracts, grants, contribution agreements, or funding arrangements.
5. Experience working in a health benefits program, including adjudication, provider support and/or policy.
6. Experience using various computer applications, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, financial management systems, Etc.
7. Experience delivering front line customer service in a high volume call centre.
8. Experience in working collaboratively with and engaging Indigenous stakeholders. (*Please note that experience may be gained in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: participating in a community initiative, project team, volunteer setting, committee, school, etc.).

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
