Duties

Regional Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officers have a role in regional readiness to respond to incidents. They contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding of ICS by supporting the delivery of ICS training, exercises, workshops, working groups, etc. They also support the development of incident management tools, such as contributing to the development of contingency plans, methodologies, or compiling lists of qualified personnel to assume roles in an ICS structure in the event of an incident.

When a response occurs, ICS Support Officers serve as subject matter experts. They support the establishment of the regional incident management structure to ensure consistent application of ICS in the conduct of regional incident management.

Work environment

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) owns and operates the federal government's civilian fleet, and provides key maritime services to Canadians. As a Special Operating Agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the CCG helps DFO meet its responsibility to ensure safe and accessible waterways for Canadians. The CCG also plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable use and development of Canada's oceans and waterways.

Intent of the process

From this selection process, it is expected that one (1) Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer position will be staffed immediately and on a permanent basis, in Dartmouth, NS. A pool of qualified candidates will also be established and may be used to fill future vacant positions that are the same or similar, of different tenures, security and language profiles, based on operational requirements.

EDUCATION:
• A high school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in emergency management;
• Experience as a team member that includes multiple different stakeholders;
• Experience in providing advice and recommendations based on analysis;
• Recent* experience with Office Suite software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.

*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five years.

Secret security clearance

• Willing and able to work overtime;
• Willing and able to travel upon short notice;
• Willing and able to work on a variety of Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) assets including helicopters, small boats or large vessels;
• Willing and able to wear and maintain a uniform as per CCG’s standards, inclusive of CSA approved Safety Footwear, and maintain job related personal protective equipment.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

Preference
