Candidates who have passed all stages of evaluation and who are selected must complete the in-class Parole Officer Induction Training (POIT) before performing Parole Officer duties.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada is seeking interest from persons looking for an exciting and rewarding career as a Parole Officer.

Parole Officers are essential to fulfilling the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) mission of contributing to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control.

The Parole Officer’s responsibilities include guiding the progress of offenders through a progression from most restrictive to least restrictive controls and from institutions to community supervision. They ensure that legal and policy requirements for reintegration are met as well as manage the reintegration of offenders throughout their sentences while trying to maintain public safety.

Furthermore, they are responsible for assessing, analyzing and recommending potential transfer and release suitability of offenders as well as observing and interpreting the behaviour of the offenders/parolees. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this selection process to staff temporary and permanent Parole Officer positions across Canada.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field that focuses on understanding and assessing human behaviour.

OR

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and acceptable correctional experience.

Degree equivalency

*Experience in formally assessing human behaviour.
*Experience in each of the following, with the aim of changing human behaviour:
• Interviewing;
• Motivating;
• Counselling;
• Making referrals or recommendations, and;
• Identifying needs for intervention.

Willingness to travel occasionally.

Some positions require willingness to work off site and travel throughout the community, on a regular basis.

DRIVER’S LICENSE: Some of these positions require possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility usually associated with having a valid driver’s license.

Tests

PSEE - Test of Judgement UIT

Applicants must complete the Public Service Entrance Exam: Test of Judgement Unsupervised Internet Test as part of the screening for this selection process. This test assesses the judgement required for solving problems in work-related situations. You will have 75 minutes to complete the test. You must complete the test before you submit your application for this position.
